Abstract
Heavy metal ions in manganese sulfate solution are generally eliminated by sulfates which have a good effect on the removal of cobalt, nickel and zinc ions, but less influence on the lead ion removal. However, it is less reported that lead ions are separated in high concentration manganese sulfate solution alone, so this paper investigates the lead ion removal from high concentration manganese sulfate solution by using BaCl2 or SrCl2 as a co-precipitator and discusses the mechanism of lead ion removal in the solution. The results show that lead ions in high concentration manganese sulfate solution can be effectively reduced from 5.0 mg.L-1 to 0.3 mg.L-1 by BaCl2 or SrCl2 and the removal rate of lead ions is greater than 90%; furthermore solution pH of 1 to 6 and stirring time have less influence on the lead ion removal; there are three forms to remove lead ions in the solution, which are mixed crystal, surface adsorption and occlusion, and the formation of mixed crystal is the main mechanism of lead ion removal. To separate the equal quantity of lead ions in the solution, the usage dosage of BaCl2 is less than that of SrCl2 in the experiment, so BaCl2 is better than SrCl2 as a co-precipitator..
