Abstract
The third Expert Forum on Atmospheric Chemistry (EFAC 3) of VDI, DECHEMA and GDCh was held on 5/6 December 2016 in Frankfurt am Main. EFAC 3 was dedicated to the interrelations between air quality and climate. The intention of the Expert Forum was to review critically the recent introductions of technical measures to abate climate change with respect to their unintended effects on air quality. Examples are the emissions of the so-called short-lived climate forcers (like e.g. CO, 03, soot), the Diesel engine emissions like NO2, N20 and NH3, the domestic combustion of wood and the related emissions of particulate matter (PM) and polyaromatic hydrocarbons such as benzo(a)pyrene, as well as the emissions of amines from carbon capture installations of power plants. Previous Expert Fora on Atmospheric Chemistry, held in 2014 and 2015, dealt with the occurrence of pollutants in the environment, the dispersion of pollutants as well as their determination and the corresponding abatement measures.
