Abstract
IPA COPYRIGHT: ASHP A case of hypocalcemia is reported in a 58-yr-old man with polycystic kidney disease given rectal Fleet enema (sodium phosphate monobasic (sodium biphosphate), combination, sodium phosphate dibasic) for the treatment of constipation. Two ampuls of calcium chloride were administered IV followed by an infusion. The patient responded rapidly to therapy. Since constipation is often a problem in patients with renal insufficiency, physicians should be aware in specifying mineral oil enema on prescriptions instead of simply Fleet enema.
