Abstract
Exhaust fumes from petrol and diesel-engined machinery and vehicles are the subject of public discussion primarily with regard to the environmental impact of atmospheric particulate matter in cities. Exhaust gases from internal combustion engines are however also an occupational safety and health issue, since diesel-engine emissions are classified as carcinogenic and exhaust gases from petrol engines are repeatedly a cause of carbon monoxide poisoning. The article discusses the hazards of, exposure to and measures against exhaust fumes from construction machinery and vehicles from an occupational safety and health perspective:
