Abstract
2-Ethylhexanol (2-ethyl-1-hexanol) [104-76-7], C8H18O, Mr130.23, ranks after the lighter alcohols (methanol to butanol) as the most important synthetic alcohol (see also ! Alcohols, Aliphatic) [1–3]. Approximately 2106 t/a are produced worldwide. 2-Ethylhexanol is mainly used as the alcohol component for the manufacture of ester plasticizers for soft poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and has been produced for this purpose since the mid-1930s.
