Reactions of 3-(4-substituted anilinoethyl)-4-amino-5-mercapto-4(H)-1,2,4-triazoles with various aliphatic/aromatic acids, cyanogen bromide, carbon disulphide, hydrazine hydrate, dimedone and monochloroacetic acid are described. Antimicrobial screening of all the synthesised compounds against bacteria Bacillus cirroflagellosus, Escherichia coli and fungi Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger have been carried out. Some of the compounds have shown most significant antifungal activity (Relative inhibition, RI = 60-93%), against both the fungal strains. However most of the compounds have shown moderate antibacterial activity (RI = 30-60%). An attempt is made to study the structure activity relationship (SAR).
