Mechanical properties of three high-Mn steels, Fe-18Mn-0.6C-1.5Al, Fe-23Mn-0.3C-1.5Al, Fe-18Mn-0.3C1.5Al, were characterized and discussed with respect to the content of the main constituents. The yield strength of the steels can be adequately described using three components: friction stress, grain size hardening and solid solution hardening with carbon as the major contributor.
