Diacetoxyiodo) benzene (PhI(OAc)(2)) or phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA) is a common oxidant reagent used in organic synthesis. PhI(OAc) 2, which has a hypervalent iodine atom, features a T-shaped molecular geometry. Typically, (diacetoxyiodo) benzene acts as oxidizing agent and promotes several oxidation and free radical reactions.[1-5] Recently, PhI(OAc) 2 is emerging as a potential catalyst and reagent in the construction of heterocycles([5-12]) and in enantioselective reactions.([13])
(Diacetoxyiodo) benzene (1) is commercially available; however, it can be synthesized in quantitative yield through treatment of iodobenzene (2) with NaBO3 and CF3SO3H in the presence of acetic acid (AcOH)([14]) (Scheme 1).
