Abstract
Three different gas chromatographic procedures were used to monitor surface water and lake waters originating from various regions of Greece for a wide variety of pesticides. Stock solutions and working solutions of lindane, aldrin, dieldrin, phorate, parathion ethyl and parathion methyl, as well as solutions of mixtures of these pesticides were used. A Varian aerograph model 3700 gas chromatograph was used with three detector systems: (1) a Ni-63 electron-capture detector; (2) a nitrogen-phosphorus detector; and (3) a flame photometric detector. Thirty water samples were analyzed, but no pesticides were detected except from Iliki Lake, where lindane was detected. Lindane is applied to the soil of potato fields adjacent to this lake. However, the concentrations found were less than allowable limits. (White-Reimer-PTT)
