[Toxic damage of the liver by chloroform in chemical industry workers]
Abstract
Liver damage due to chloroform has in general been known in the course of acute or subacute toxicosis. Liver changes, however, ought to be atypical for chronic toxicosis which occurs on extremely rare occasions [1, 3, 5, 8, 13]. Our initially isolated observations of plant workers who handle chloroform within their activities pointed to the effect of chloroform on the liver function. This led us to conduct a detailed evaluation of all the workers of one of the departments of a pharmaceutical company, where chloroform was used as the basic solvent in the production process.
