Abstract
In Bosnia and Herzegovina more than 13 000 ha of agricultural soil are devastated due to the coal mining, and landfills with slag and ash cause contamination of soil, surface and ground waters, with different toxic matters and heavy metals. Waste geological material from coal production is suitable for recultivation of slag landfill of Thermal Power Plant Tuzla. Investigations were undertaken to evaluate the possibility of usage of geological mining waste in recultivation of slag landfills. Four experimental soil parcels were chosen for investigation. Three parcels were prepared with geological mining waste and one parcel - with geological mining waste and gravel. Chemical analyses of soil samples showed less humic and phosphorus content, and pH values varied. Content of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn) in geological waste material and soil samples was measured with atomic spectrometer (Perkin Elmer), and values did not exceed tolerable limits. Biological recultivation was done with different cultivars, and heavy metals intake monitored on four soil parcels. Results obtained showed that there was no contamination with heavy metals, in soil, as well as in recultivation cultivars. Results obtained showed that biological recultivation with geological mining waste is efficient and the content of heavy metals is below contamination level.
