Abstract
Additive manufacturing (AM) is growing at a fast pace as one of the newer manufacturing technique in which the manufactured component can be put to direct use. In the category of AM, fused deposition modelling (FDM) is one of the most common technology in which the end user product can be used directly for the purpose of evaluation. This present work is taken up to study the process capability of Fe-Nylon (6) composite based feedstock filament for investigating its stability for manufacturing. Comparison has been made between the Fe-Nylon (6) composite with the existing Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) material. It was observed that the FDM process is equally capable for ABS and Fe-Nylon (6) composite as process capability indices (C-p and C-pk) are found to be greater than one for both the materials. The calculation of process capability of the FDM machine by using both the materials is 4.5 sigma or higher within the specification limits specified as per the DIN standards. Control charts and the International tolerance (IT) grades as per ISO-286 indicate that the Fe-Nylon (6) composite is equally capable of manufacturing parts within the specified tolerances.
