Abstract
Mechanical properties and proton conductivity of natural rubber with nanomatrix structure were investigated with respect to primary and higher order structures of the nanomatrix. Products were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and transmission electron microscopy. The natural rubber particles of about 1 mu m in diameter were well dispersed into the sulfonated polystyrene matrix of about 15 - 80 nm in thickness. Storage modulus of natural rubber increased dramatically after the formation of the nanomatrix structure. The outstanding proton conductivity was associated with the formation of highly connected nanomatrix structure.
