Abstract
The pigeon has been demonstrated to be a handy and sensitive biological indicator which would provide a greatly magnified picture of regional saturnine pollution I'2 This clearly depends on its unique physical properties; small body size and high metabolism associated with a large ventilatory minute volume per unit body weight, as well as on its ubiquity in both urban and suburban areas and its being sedentary and gregarious. We report here our observation that the pigeon may be a good index animal for an ambient air pollution by paradichlorobenzene, a recently recognized environmental contaminant.
