3-Chlorobenzothiophene-2-carbonyl chloride 1 was converted into 3-chloro-1-benzothiophene-2-carbohydrazide 2. Compound 2 reacted with 2-methyl-4H-3,1-benzoxazin-4-one to form 3-chloro-N-(2-methyl-4-oxoquinazolin-3(4H)-yl)-1-benzothiophene-2-carbox amide 3. The carbohydrazide 2 reacted with chloroacetic acid to give 2-(3-chloro-1-benzothiophen-2-yl)-4,5-dihydro-6H-1,3,4-oxadiazin-6-one 4.2-[(3-Chloro-1-benzothiophen-2-yl) carbonyl]-2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-dione 5 was produced by the reaction of compound 2 with phthalic anhydride. The compound 2 also reacted with acetyl acetone and ethyl acetoacetate in gl acetic acid to give (3-chloro-1-benzothiophen-2-yl)-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl) methanone 6 and 2-[(3-chloro-1-benzothiophen-2-yl) carbonyl]-5-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one 7. Finally, the compound 2 was allowed to react with 4-methylbenzenesulfonyl chloride in pyridine to give 3-chloro-N'-[(4-methylphenyl) sulfonyl]-1-benzothiophene-2-carbohydrazide 8. The structures of newly synthesized compounds were elucidated on the basis of elemental. analysis, IR and H-1 NMR spectral data. The compounds have been screened for antimicrobial, analgesic and anthelmintic activity.
