The complexes [RuCl3(dppb)(4-Mepy)](dppb=Ph2P(CH2)(4) PPh2) (PP) and [RuCl (etp)(2,2'-bipy)]Cl (etp=PhP(PPhCH2)(2)) (PPP) are chloroform soluble and amenable to form Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. The morphology of pure and mixed films of these complexes with stearic acid was analyzed using atomic force microscopy (AFM) in air. While complexation with stearic acid led to reasonably uniform LB films of(PP), films from PPP were extremely rough since stearic acid did not help in the transfer process owing to the lack of complexation of stearic acid and PPP molecules.
