HEEP COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. Samples (101) of cereals collected from different parts of Maharashtra State (India) were assessed for organochlorine pesticide residues by gas chromatography. A comparative study was carried out for residue content between cereal samples obtained directly from the fields and those procured from ration shops. Most cereal samples obtained from fields were contaminated with BHC and lindane, with levels below FAO maximum residue limits. Most samples procured from ration shops contained DDT residues and the level was as high as 9.0 ppm. This could be ascribed to application of pesticides during storage.
