Water, sediment and aquatic samples collected from selected sampling points of Abatan River and Maribojoc Bay were analyzed for cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) using the atomic absorption spectrophotometric method. The Cd, Cr, Pb, Ni and Zn content in the downstream waters of Abatan River and Maribojoc Bay showed higher metal contents deviations to that of the up-stream part of the river. These are generally indicative of the anthropogenic contamination of the water system. The Cd, Cr and Pb clearly exceeded both the DENR water quality values for rivers, and the WHO acceptable maximum values for drinking water. The sediments, shellfish and fish collected from the river and the bay also showed high levels of Cd and Pb.
