The article introduces the new chemical element ununbium or element 112. The element was a discovery of a group led by Sigurd Hofmann at the Centre for Heavy Ion Research (GSI) in Darmstadt, Germany. It was unearthed in 1996 when Hofmann's team held that firing a beam of zinc atoms at a piece of lead produces an atom that was embedded in their detector. It is noted that the reported inconsistencies of the decay chains made the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) reject the element's recognition.
