Abstract
USCG studies conducted at the U.S. naval weapons center, China lake, Calif., on the behavior of LNG are reviewed. A comprehensive program to test such liquified gases as propane, butadiene, and ethylene oxide was developed and involved the preparation of a theoretical model for deflagration to detonation transition; shock tube tests to determine the properties of confined deflagration and detonation; large pool and cloud fires of both LNG and LPG; and the testing of gas sensors.
