Abstract
Research through 1992 on residues of inorganic bromide resulting from use of ethylene dibromide and methyl bromide pesticides in food is reviewed by an FAO/WHO panel of experts. Use patterns of bromine-containing soil fumigants on crops are summarized. Data on crop residue levels, as measured in supervised trials, are tabulated. Residue transfers to rotation crops and residues in nut crops resulting from post-harvest fumigation also are studied. Residue analysis methods are explained. Current national Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) established and recommended MRLs for bromide from all sources are listed.
