This work presents a framework for the development of metal matrix composite (MMC)-based dental implants by stir casting (SC) in silicon molding (SM)-based investment shells. A comparative study of barrel finishing (BF) and chemical vapor smoothing (CVS) for improving the surface finish of fused deposition modeling (FDM)-based dentistry patterns made by using acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) filament material is also been highlighted (for better understanding of intermediate steps). The effects of process parameters of hybrid FDM-BF and FDM-CVS have been investigated using Taguchi L9 OA. Further, ANOVA was used to determine the significance of the process parameter at 95% confidence level. It has been observed that the CVS method is more effective for improving the surface finish of ABS replicas without any counter effects on the dimensional accuracy as compared to BF.
