Abstract
The effect of natural oils (castor and jojoba oils) as alternative ingredient for NBR and NR vulcanizates has been evaluated. Only for comparison, DOP is used as a reference plasticizer. The mechanical properties revealed that castor oil and jojoba oil act as a plasticizer in the range > 6 phr. The presence of oils led to a fine distribution of the SiO2 inside both rubbers. In addition, NBR/SiO2 vulcanizates showed good thermal stability due to the formation of intermediate, thermally stable structures as a result of thermo-oxidative reactions of natural oils. The electrical conductivity values are found to be in the order of 10(-9) S/cm which highly recommends such composites to be used as antistatic materials.
