A 27-year-old left-handed woman presented with dry eczema affecting the dorsa of both hands, the dorsal aspects of the index and middle finger of the left hand and the right index finger. Details from the manufacturer revealed the adhesive to be an aqueous emulsion of vinyl acetate which reacts with glyoxal, formaldehyde and ammonium persulphate to form polyvinyl acetate. The authors believe that skin damage from fibre glass spicules may have been a contributory factor to the development of the contact sensitivity to glyoxal.
