Post-mortem digestion in jackdaws Corvus monedula : Implications for studies of bird feeding

Jackdaws were collected in twos and one of each was injected with 10% formalin to stop digestive action. The authors recorded total weight of food, number of animal prey, total volume of the animal, vegetable and mineral fractions. The values of these were similar in injected and non-injected birds, none of the differences being significant. Post mortem digestion does not produce a loss of information with respect to feeding studies on birds. This conclusion was supported by an experiment.
