Artemia samples were collected from 20 salt lakes in the Crimea, Kazakhstan and Altai area in June-July 1988. Habitats showed a wide range of salinity (40-300 ppt). Brine shrimp were collected with a 180 mu m mesh net; ovigerous females of different size classes were fixed individually with 10 percent formaline. The following characteristics were determined: total length and dry weight of female, cyst dry weight and fecundity. In order to analyse the influence of salinity on the female reproductive characteristics under natural conditions, regression and correlation analysis were used. Furthermore, the correlation between female reproductive characteristics of different populations and their type of reproduction was investigated. As reproductive characteristics of Artemia females are directly influenced by their age, comparative analysis was performed on females of equal physiological age in the beginning of the reproductive period.
