Abstract
The molar volumes of liquid CH4 and CD4 have been measured between 98 and 112°K with a relative accuracy of about 2·10−4. The molar volume of CH4 is about 1% larger than that of CD4 over all this temperature range. This difference is tentatively interpreted as resulting from (a) a translational quantum effect and (b) small differences in the intermolecular forces.
