Abstract
Research on the relationships governing the exhaustive catalytic oxidation of benzene-series hydrocarbons is of not only theoretical but also great practical interest in connection with the need for air purification in a number of manufacturing processes. Basic kinetic relationships were set forth by Drakhlov, et al. (1981) for the exhaustive oxidation of small quantities of benzene in the gas phase on platinized alumina catalyst; the heterogeneous-homogeneous character of this reaction was established, and a kinetic model of the reaction was given. This investigation has been extended to the exhaustive oxidation of p-xylene and styrene.
