By measurements of the contact angle with water (W), glycerol (G), formamide (F), diiodomethane (D) and ethylene glycol (E) on polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and polycarbonate (PC), the Lifshitz-van der Waals and the Lewis acid-base (electron-acceptor and electron-donor) components of the polymers surface free energy parameters were determined. From contact angle data of several combinations of test liquids, an optimization which can reflect the character of polymer surface can be obtained with any of the combinations of W-G-D, W-F-D and W-E-D. In all kinds of polymers, PP and PE are non-polar resins, they have lower Lifshitz-van der Waals components only, PS, ABS, PC and PET are polar resins with obvious characteristics of Lewis base, and PVC is an ambipolar resin with bigger Lewis acid component.
