Abstract
It is shown that a phosphonium ylide is an effective photoinitiator for the polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St). The effect of a radical scavenger and kinetic studies showed that the photo-polymerization of MMA and St by triphenylphosphonium ethoxycarbonyl-methylide proceeded by the free radical mechanism.
