Abstract
Automobile parts made of plastic materials deteriorate physically when exposed to harsh external environments, such as UV radiation and high temperatures. Furthermore, they also discolor due to the oxidation of the polymer material. For this reason, most of the plastic parts used in the exterior are generally painted. However, due to the high percentage of defects in the painting process and environmentally hazardous substances generated during the process, studies on minimizing the painting process by replacing weathering enhanced plastics have increased. This study investigated the discoloration tendency of the acrylonitrile styrene acrylate(ASA) resin, which was once used on weathering enhanced plastics for exterior parts. The discoloration tendencies of different color samples with different amounts of dye and pigment were studied under the SAE J 1960 condition.
