Abstract
The use of natural color ingredient has been variously attempted due to the harmfulness of tar pigments used in a cosmetic lip product. However, The demerits of cosmetics containing natural color ingredient arise with regard to stability, color development, and sustainability. In this study, the film former was added to the lip tint formulation to improve its sustainability. A control sample was prepared lip tint containing gardenia jasminoides extract. Sample A was added to hydrogenated styrene/Isoprene copolymer to control. For comparative evaluation, sample B (commercial product) was prepared lip tint containing tar pigment as a colorant. we assessed the stability, safety, and durability of prepared lip tint (control, sample A, and B) As a result, there was no separation of materials from all samples after centrifugation and cycling test. The stability of all samples’ formulation was also confirmed from the change of viscosity and pH in 4 weeks. To evaluate the safety, there was no skin irritation in all samples. The results of durability evaluation showed that the sample A was similar to sample B (lip tint on the market). On the other hand, the control sample without the film former had the lowest durability. Conclusionally, it is expected that the use of Hydrogenated styrene/Isoprene copolymer can increase the commercialization potential for the improvement of the retention of lip tint using natural coloring materials.
