Abstract
It has recently been established that nitrile oxides will undergo 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition to the alkene double bonds in cis-1,4-polybutadiene and cis-1,4-polyisoprene thus introducing isoxazoline units. The authors now report that this technique may also be used to convert nitrile groups in acrylonitrile-styrene and acrylonitrile-vinylidine chloride copolymers into 1,2,4-oxadiazoles.
