Abstract
The copolymerization of transition metal salts of acrylic acid with various vinyl monomers and among themselves has been studied. It has been shown that the activity of the acrylates is lower than that of traditional monomers and falls in the series Co2+ > Ni2+ > Fe3+ > Cu2+. Copolymers of cobalt and nickel acrylates with styrene are characterized by a tendency to alternation of the monomer units but copolymers of monomers with different metals tend to a statistical distribution of succession. The value of e in the Q-e scheme gives evidence of the electron-donor character of the metal carboxylate groupings. The main properties of the polymeric products have been studied.
