Abstract
From hydrofluoric acid the new fluoromanganate(III) Li[MnF4]center dot H2O could be crystallized. Its structure was determined by X-ray diffraction: orthorhombic, space group Pnma, Z = 4, alpha = 5.355(1), b = 12.358(3), c = 5.381(1) angstrom, R = 0.044. The structure is built by strongly bent quadratic anionic layers [MnF4](-) connected by chains of Li+ and H2O Owing to the Jahn-Teller effect, antiferrodistortive ordering of strongly elongated octahedra is observed. The strucure is compared with that of waterfree Li[MnF4].
