Abstract
In the production of sulfur hexachloride one of the gases found is sulfur pentafluoride. Acute inhalation expts. on rats indicate that sulfur pentafluoride is an extremely dangerous pulmonary irritant, producing pulmonary damage at 1 ppm. for one hour. A max. allowable concn. of 0.01 ppm. is proposed. Like phosgene the irritation is due to the hydrolysis of the compound in the lungs, yielding HF in this case. ABSTRACT AUTHORS: L. Grant
