Abstract
Sorption characteristics of shungite III of the Zazhogino site with respect to Cs+, Co2+ and Eu3+ cations have been studied by the radioactive tracer method. It was found that the kinetics of the sorption is slow and the equilibrium is attained in about 7 days. At pH 5, the distribution coefficients of Cs+, Co2+, and Eu3+,, 35, 47, and 660, respectively. The dependence of the distribution coefficients on the pH of aqueous solution was determined. The exchange capacity for EU(3+) at pH 6 is 36 mu eq g(-1). The modification of shungite by treating with toluene or hydrofluoric acid significantly improves its sorption properties.
