Abstract
Reaction kinetics of controlled/living radical polymerization of acrylonitrile by RAFT technique was described. Chain transfer agent 2-cyanoprop-2-yl dithiobenzoate (CPDB) was synthesized, and azobis(isobutyronitrile) was recrystallized twice from methanol and dried under vaccum. Dimethylformamide (DMF) was dried over CaH2, and distilled under reduced pressure, and stored under N2 at 0°C. It was found that CPDB was a good chain transfer agent for controlled radical polymerization. It was also found that RAFT agent CPDB was efficient for the preparation of PAN with controlled molecular weight and narrow MWD.
