Abstract
The titrations are carried out with sodium hydroxide in varying concentrations (0-60% v/v) of propylene glycol-water mixtures at ionic strength of 0.16 mol L-1 and temperature 303 K. Models containing different number of species were refined by using the computer program MINJQUAD75. The species ML+,MLH2+ and ML2H+ were chosen based on exhaustive modeling studies. The best-fit chemical models were arrived at based on statistical parameters. The linear increase In the stability of the complexes with decreasing dielectric constant of the medium indicates the dominance of electrostatic forces In the equilibrium process under the present experimental conditions. The order of the stabilities of the complexes is CaII < MnII< ZnII. The species distribution and the feasible equilibria for the formation of the species are also presented. © 2014 Scientific Publishers. All rights reserved.
