Abstract
The crystal of [Cu(pa)(vim)(2)](n) (where pa=phthalic acid dianion, vim= 1-vinyl-1H-imidazole) was synthesized and its structure was characterized by X-ray single crystal diffractometry and elemental analysis. It crystallizes in monoclinic system, C2/c space group with the cell parameters of a=1.6527(3) nm, b=0.81800(16) nm, c= 1.4463(3) nm, beta = 113.19(3)degrees, V= 1.7973(7) nm(3), Z=4, and D-c= 1.537 g.cm(-3). Final R indices [I>2 sigma(I)] are: R-1 = 0.0476, wR(2)=0.1235 while R indices for all data are: R-1=0.0693. wR(2)=0.1355. The title compound exhibits an existence of polymeric zigzag chains extended along c-axis. Each Cu(II) ion is located at a crystallographic center of symmetry being coordinated by two N and two O atoms in a distorted square-planar geometry. The electrochemical studies reveal that redox of Cu2+/Cu+ is a quasi-reversible one-electron process.
