This paper will describe the Safety and Air Surveillance Section's (SASS) organization for responding to emergency air releases, and the air surveillance equipment and procedures used by ERT. In addition, the paper will conclude with case studies that demonstrate various emergency response activities including: the detonation of 1,4-dioxane drums in Cotton Plant, Arkansas; oil well burning in Kuwait City; the detonation of 49 high pressure cylinders with unknown contents in America Samoa; and the burning of Hurricane Hugo debris in St. Croix, V.I.
