Physico-chemical properties and chemical composition of atmospheric anthropogenic aerosols have been investigated in the country of Baden-Wuerttenberg, F.R.G., during a five year period. Aerosols were sampled weekly on seven sites, representing two rural and five urban regions. Special consideration was directed to important toxic and carcinogenic aerosol pollutants: asbestos, heavy metals, arsenic, etc., and to organic carcinogens, as PAH, Chlorinated PAH, etc. Mean values, as well as concentrations related to year seasons were correlated to epidemiological data dealing with the lung cancer frequency of the general population.
