Abstract
Four niobium phosphate samples obtained by different methods were tested in the alkylation of anisole with benzyl alcohol. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, N-2 adsorption and FTIR in the structural and adsorbed pyridine regions. The microporous niobium phosphate presented the highest activity and satisfactory selectivity to alkylated products. The good performance of this microporous material in the alkylation reaction, a first time result, may be mainly attributed to the large amount of Bronsted acid sites on the large surface area.
