The title compound, C14H11BrO, was synthesized by the reaction of 4-methylbenzophenone and bromine in carbon tetrachloride. X-ray crystal structure analysis reveals that the benzene and phenyl rings form a dihedral angle of 59.53 (6)degrees, and the crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular C - H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions.
