The aim of this study was to assess the seed quality (the proportion of normal and abnormal seedlings as well as hard, fresh, and dead seeds) of red fescue depending on rate of spring N fertilization (40 and 70 kg.ha(-1)) and plant grow regulators (CCC - chlormequat chloride, TE - trinexapac-ethyl, ETE - ethephon) in two production years. The seed quality depended mostly on variety. In the first and the second production year, the percentage of normal seedlings 7 days after sowing (DAS) was higher in F. r. ssp. rubra than in F. r. ssp. commutata, but total percentage of such seedlings 7 and 21 DAS was higher in F. r. ssp. commutata. Both in the first and the second production year, the percentage of hard and dead seeds were higher in F. r. ssp. rubra. Only in the second production year the percentage of fresh seeds was higher, but abnormal seeds lower in F. r. ssp. rubra than F. r. ssp. commutata. In the second production year application of CCC+TE increased proportion of hard seeds after N fertilization at a rate of 70 kg.ha(-1).
