Abstract
In order to derive future trends for biaxial oriented films, the influences of global mega-trends on different fields of application are discussed, including biospheric, economical, social, political and technological factors. Trends for the packaging markets for the most important film types - biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET), biaxially oriented polyamide (BOPA), biaxially oriented polystyrene (BOPS), biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE) and biaxially oriented polylactic acid (BOPLA) - are introduced. For technical films the trends of flat panel displays, photovoltaic, solar panels and battery separator films are highlighted. New film types have been developed on a versatile pilot line, which can be used to provide services. Finally a development environment is presented, demonstrating how basics as well as application-oriented developments for biaxially oriented films can be implemented.
