Just as the bulk of Doris Lessing's works is formidable, both of her ideology and forms of the novel are also intimidatingly complicated. The interlocking matters of political, social, psychological and philosophical importance and the interweaving plots, characters and events form so large a labyrinth that once it is entered, it is very hard for anyone to find the way out. But there must be a ball of threads, which could lead Daedalus back to the world. Doris Lessing's own life experiences may give us a hint about where that ball of threads is.
