Abstract
The legend of 1900 was directed by Giuseppe Tornatore in 1998, which was the first English film directed by himself. The film tells the story of a legendary Pianist - 1900's lonely life. He was born on a ship, grew up on the ship, and died on the ship. He never set foot on the land and never left the sea, with a lifetime fulfilling his dream to have his figures dancing on the piano. The film tells the story of 1900's going, growth, search and return, who eventually stick to his own spiritual home. Max is not only the narrator of the 1900's stories, and the only friend in 1900's lonely and short life, but also one of the common people who can't resist the temptation of fortune. The smart set of Max's multiple identities lead the film to a success. Through the analysis of the characters of 1900 and MAX in the film, we can have a profound understanding and thinking of man's life and survival.
