Abstract
The adsorption competition of lead and sulfur on nickel has been explored in acidic aqueous media at room temperature by examining the electrochemical behavior of Ni. A separate PbO or K2S4O6 inoculation resulted in significant inhibition and activation of Ni corrosion, respectively. The investigation of the combined effects of Pb and S revealed that S mostly dominates over Pb for adsorption on Ni. When added in sequence and in different proportions, the kinetic evidence indicates neither species fully replaces the other on a pure metallic Ni surface, i.e., some permanent effect of Pb was observed even after S was added.
