Synthesis of 7-hydroxy-4,5-methyl/7-hydroxy-4-methyl/7,8-dihydroxy-4-methyl/6-chloro-7-hydroxy-4-methyl-2H-1-benzopyrane-2-ones (VI-IX) have been carried out by Pechmann reaction. The condensation of synthesized 2H-1-benzopyran-2-ones (VI-X) with phenyl isocyanate (XI) gave 4,5-methyl/4-methyl/4-methyl/6-chloro-4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-benzopyran-7yl/7,8-diyl/4-yl/phenyl carbamates (XII-XVI). The synthesized compounds were characterized on the basis of analytical and spectral data. All the compounds were evaluated for their nematicidal activity in vitro against second stage juveniles (J(2)) of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne javanica).
